Dr. J. Allen Hynek was an American astronomer, professor, and UFO researcher. He served as a scientific consultant for the U.S. Air Force’s Project Blue Book, the official investigation into UFOs, from 1947 to 1969.
Initially skeptical, Hynek later became one of the most respected figures in UFO research, creating the “Close Encounters” classification system for UFO sightings. He founded the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) and advocated for the scientific study of UFO phenomena, contributing significantly to the legitimization of the field.
